S.A JUNIOR INTER-PROVINCIAL
Well done our U18 Boys. Off they went to Leopard Park Golf Club, gave all the other teams some real Western Cape hospitality and back they came with the Trophy. That’s just great. Captained by our own Josh de Klerk, well supported by KJ Lee and six other stars. That’s the way to end the year—ON TOP.

Both Josh and KJ finished in the top ten of the most valued players and KJ with his partner, Devon Thomas, won all their foursomes matches.

LADIES MEDAL FINAL
Another great finish was the Ladies Final Medal Day and Bea’s Awards. All the ladies had on their Christmas best and red was the colour in fashion. A full turn out of ladies pitched up to ensure fierce competition for the winners enclosure. Carrie Smales took honours in the Silver division on net 74 from Sonja Sleep on 75 while Liz Cameron continued her winning form to walk away with the Bronze division on 71 from Helen Barret on 75 net.

Among the many prize winners were June Harrison who was awarded the Most Valuable League player and also was given the “Sniper’ award by Bea. Carrie Smales and Karen Kent won the Bertha Sussman Trophy while Bridget Woodhouse won the Spirit Award, a popular choice. Another of Bea’s awards went to Sonja Sleep who won a bucket and spade to help her when visiting all the many bunkers at Clovelly.

OH COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
Yes, think about that, we need you all to come and play at Clovelly. The weather is superb and we hope you are all faithful to your club. Our fields are never full so your support is needed. Please don’t book and then NOT PITCH, at least pick up the phone [021-7842100] and cancel your booking so someone else manages to get a game. Don’t be selfish.

Saturday was all go and nearly a full field in both sessions. It was great to see Rob Pilkington back for a quick game, see you soon again, we hope. The competition was a confused stableford, not that most competitions are not somewhat confused. Brother Mark Warrington with partner Tom Jonsson sneaked home on 66 points from his sister Wendy who was partnered by Kelly Muzzell on 65. Bad luck Wendy, but at least you know that Mark will lose two shots for next week!!

In the afternoon Ronnie Basant and Fred Fautley flew in on 75 a clear 5 points ahead of Kashiv Adams and Willie Mentoor on 70 despite Willie shooting a gross 69 – brilliant Willie.
This Saturday we are running a special Father Christmas afternoon competition.
There will be ten prizes but you must be there to win the Individual Stableford.

S.A JUNIOR INTER-PROVINCIAL
Junior golfers from 13 unions nationwide are lining up for the 51st South African Junior Inter-Provincial, which tees off at Leopard Park Golf Club in the North West province from 12 to 16 December. On paper , the teams from Gauteng North , Central Gauteng, Northwest, and Western Province certainly look like the favorites and it would not surprise me if these four teams all make the top six. Clovelly is well represented with Josh De Klerk and KJ Lee in the side. KJ is playing good golf at the moment after his win in The Clovelly Open and a string of sub par rounds during the past weeks. Josh is his usual steady self and has been seen daily on the practice green . Good luck to you both.

MONDAY’S TOY DAY
It was Frankie’s Monday School Christmas Toy Day on Monday. Every golfer had to bring a toy and what a spread of toys it was. They filled three tables to overflowing with Tea sets, Teddies large and small, balls, Jigsaw puzzles, dolls all shapes and sizes and oh so many more, which will all go to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital . 64 golfers played in the competition which was followed by a light supper presented to perfection by Carl our Caterer. During supper a few light hearted speeches were made and our Captain read out his ’poem of the Year” !! As is the norm there were ten places and they all received the same prize.

TITLEIST PHOTO SHOOT
So we closed the course on Tuesday and once again we thank all those who were inconvenienced. Your co-operation was much appreciated and we were able to add a whole lot of pennies to our coffers. It was a busy day on the course—there was some 60 plus people doing all sorts of jobs that are connected to filming but have nothing to do with golf except that they were provided with food and drinks were ever you looked. 20 carts plus other types of transportation dashed from hole to hole, Camera’s rolled and Producers barked out orders, make up artists did hair and make up on the run while chomping on fresh fruit and the models both men and ladies practiced their swings while waiting to be called. There was also a few onlookers who wandered around but spent most of their time relaxing in the carpark under umbrellas feasting on a spread of food prepared by the teams Executive Chef. All in all it was a fantastic day with a difference enjoyed by all, especially all those that were paid for their efforts on the day.

CHRISTMAS TIMES HERE AGAIN
True Christmas weather “RAIN.” Wednesday was wet in the afternoon, but not before all had teed off and then along came the rain. Ten four balls soldiered on through rain and sunshine with The Dunn’s Ron and Steve taking the honours with a score of 45 from John Gaunt and Giles Smith on 42.

IJingle Bells, Jingle Bells……God rest ye merry gentlemen… gosh it’s that time again. Yes the year has flown by and if we look back we remember all the good times, never mind the not so good ones.

The past week has seen us host two great Member golf afternoons. First it was The Ladies Turkey Trot followed by a festive prize giving and a supper with after dinner singing and dancing led by our Choir Mistress Karen Denman.

Next up was Frankie’s over 55’s Christmas afternoon—it was a full house followed by the usual Frankie prize giving filled with laughter and some serious ribbing. Ten fantastic prizes were on offer and all thanks to the over 55’s Committee for a great afternoon.

It was made all the more of a special occasion as it was Frankie’s 81st Birthday. Congratulations and Happy Birthday Frankie our newest Honorary Life member.

Saturday was an absolute horrible day with a pumping South Easter all day, which made scoring for the Monthly and Final medals none too easy. Rohan Fraser had no problem in the morning shooting a quite fantastic 71 gross off his one handicap. Brilliant Rohan winning the “A” Division and also the final Medal from Richard Goveia (net 72). Nigel Bowerman won the “B” Division on 70 net with the Final Medal winner Terry Preyser second on 74 net.

In the afternoon Steven Dunn won the “A” Division on 75 net from Wizz Good on 76. The “B” Division was won by Leon Dekker on 70 net from our Captain John Spyker on 75 net. Sandy Smith won the “C” Division from Henry Friebus. The afternoon Final Medal winners were Wizz Good in the “A” Division, Dhiren Garach in the “B” Division and Sham Young winning the “C:Division.

Please all remember that the course will be closed on Christmas Day. New Years Day we are open and we will have a One Tee Start day. You may book now or just pitch up and we will fit you in as the day goes
along.
